Henry Carruthers
(Eastern District) Born near Kirkconnel, 7th October 1843; left because of ill health, 24th January 1864, returned to Blairs, 29th July 1864, and ordained a priest in Dundee, 8th September 1867; at Bathgate until 1874.

Parish records show that Henry Carruthers was the son of John Carruthers and Elizabeth Yates. He was baptised in St Anddrew's Dumfries on 5th January 1844.

The Rev. Henry Carruthers was born at Maxwellbank near Kirkconnell, in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, on the 7th October 1843. Having been received at Blairs College, 24th April 1857, he was sent on 25th Sept. 1858 to the Scots College of Valladolid. He returned in bad health, 31st Jan. 1864. Having recovered, he re-entered Blairs on 29th July, same year, and received the Tonsure on the 3d, Minor Orders on the 4th, Sub-diaconate on the 6th, and Diaconate on the 7th Sept. 1867 in the chapel of the College at the hands of the Right Rev. Dr Strain. He then proceeded to St Mary’s, Dundee, and on the following day (8th Sept.) he was raised to the Priesthood, and in a few days afterwards he was sent, as Junior Clergyman, to Bathgate.
